OUR priorities

  • Young students learning about rhythm from a music teacher.

Establishing Partnerships with Local Organizations and Schools

We will collaborate with Philadelphia's performing arts organizations, music venues, and public schools to create a supportive and engaging learning environment. These partnerships will ensure that our programs are accessible to a diverse range of students and community members, facilitating a shared cultural experience. Current partnerships include The School District of Philadelphia, the Kimmel Center, and Local 77 Musicians Union.

  • Local musicians playing jazz music outside a building in a parking lot.

    Hiring Local Philadelphia Musicians

By engaging talented local musicians, we aim to bring authentic Philadelphia jazz to our curriculum. These musicians will serve as instructors, mentors, and cultural ambassadors, sharing their expertise and passion for jazz with students. Their involvement will ensure that our program reflects the unique sounds and styles that have shaped Philadelphia's jazz legacy.

Creating a Curriculum Reflective of Philadelphia's Cultural Heritage

Our curriculum will be thoughtfully designed to celebrate the city's distinctive jazz history and its contributions to the broader jazz landscape. Classes will cover various aspects of jazz, from historical context and influential figures to technical skills and improvisation. Special emphasis will be placed on the contributions of Philadelphia’s jazz legends and the city's role in the evolution of the genre.

  • Three men playing jazz music outside using a saxophone, trumpet, and drum kit.

    Conducting Classes in Diverse Venues

To provide a well-rounded educational experience, classes will be held in various settings, including performing arts organizations, prominent music venues, and Philadelphia public schools. This approach will give students unique insights into different aspects of the music industry and the performance landscape, while also fostering connections within the local jazz community.

Through OUR school visits, WE’ll create a dynamic, educational program that honors Philadelphia's cultural heritage, supports local artists, and inspires a new generation of jazz enthusiasts.
